Boomerang for Gmail is a browser plugin that adds time-awareness to email. This page answers some of its more frequently asked questions. If you do not see your question answered here, please feel free to contact us at info@baydin.com.

Installation

What do I need in order to use Boomerang?

Boomerang works in Gmail and Google Apps accounts. Boomerang for Gmail is available for both Chrome and Firefox browsers. Download the extension here.

We also make Boomerang for Outlook so you can use Boomerang at work.

Does Boomerang work with Google Apps?

Yes. We support Google Apps Mail and hosted domains.

It didn't work for my Google Apps account. I got an error saying "single sign-in feature is disabled." Help?

If this happens, that means your domain doesn't allow a feature called "Federated Login". This tends to happen for Google Apps Premier or Educational domains. If your domain is a regular Google Apps account and you're getting this error, that means your domain admin has turned off "Federated Login" feature.

Here is the instructions for you (if you have admin permission) or your domain adminstrator to enable "Federated Login" feature in your GoogleApps.

  1. From Google Apps, click "Manage this domain."
  2. In the blue bar, click on "Advanced tools."
  3. Under "Authenticaion" section, click "Federated Login using OpenID."
  4. Make sure the checkbox labelled "Allow users to sign in to third party websites using OpenID" is checked.
  5. Click "Save Changes."

Try Boomeranging a message after you have done the steps above and it should work.

Boomerang (Return to Inbox Later)

How do I use Boomerang?

When reading a message in your Inbox, click the "Boomerang" button, which is located next to "More Actions." Specify the time you want that message to return to your inbox.

How do I view my incoming messages?

Your incoming messages belong to the Boomerang label. To view your messages again, click on the Boomerang label on the left sidebar, or do a Gmail search with the option: "label:boomerang".

How do I reschedule or cancel an incoming message?

Click the "Boomerang" link in the upper-right corner of your Gmail page, next to "Settings", "Help", and "Sign Out." You will see your Manage Boomerang page. To reschedule a message, click "Reschedule" and choose a new time. To cancel a message, click "Return Now" or "Don't Return."

How do I change the way messages are returned to my inbox?

Click the "Boomerang" link in the upper-right corner of your Gmail page, next to "Settings", "Help", and "Sign Out." You will see your Manage Boomerang page. You may change your preferences at the bottom of the screen.

What is "Boomerang by Magic"?

If your current email matches certain criteria, Boomerang will suggest a time for you to return the message to your inbox. Click the suggested time to automatically Boomerang the message, or click the nearby arrow to see a list of other suggested times.

Send Later

How do I use Send Later?

When composing a message, first click "Save Now" to save the message as a draft. Then click the "Send Later" button, which is located next to "Save Now." Specify the time you want that message to be sent.

Do I need to have my computer on or browser open when the message is scheduled to be sent?

No, you do not need to have your computer or browser open at the scheduled time.

How do I view my outgoing messages?

Your outgoing messages belong to the Boomerang-Outbox label. To view your messages again, click on the Boomerang-Outbox label on the left sidebar, or do a Gmail search with the option: "label:boomerang-outbox".

How do I reschedule or cancel an outgoing message?

Click the "Boomerang" link in the upper-right corner of your Gmail page, next to Settings, Help, and Sign Out. You will see your Manage Boomerang page. To reschedule a message, click "Reschedule" and choose a new time. To cancel a message, click "Don't Send." Your message will return to Drafts.

How will I know that my Send Later message has been delivered?

After delivery, your message will leave the Boomerang-Outbox label and appear in Sent Mail folder inside Gmail. Once it's in Sent Mail, you know your message has been sent.

Boomerang Mobile

How do I access Boomerang Mobile?

On any smart phone with a web browser, please go to http://m.boomeranggmail.com and sign in with your Gmail or Google Apps account. You will have all the features of Boomerang for Gmail on the go.

How do I make sure I have easy access to Boomerang Mobile?

You can save a bookmark to your home screen on your iOS and Android devices for easy access to Boomerang Mobile.

  • iPhone
    1. Open Boomerang Mobile from Safari on your iPhone.
    2. Then click the arrow (the middle button) at the bottom and click 'Add to Home Screen'.
  • iPad
    1. Open Boomerang Mobile from Safari on your iPad.
    2. Then click the plus button next to the browser address bar.
    3. Select 'Add to Home Screen' and a Boomerang app icon will be added to your iPad.
  • Android
    1. Open Boomerang Mobile from your default browser on your phone.
    2. Then bookmark it in your browser.
    3. Go to the home screen and press and hold in an empty space. It will bring up 'Add to Home Screen' menu.
    4. Then select 'Shortcuts' and then 'Bookmark'. Then tap on the Boomerang Mobile bookmark you saved.

Pricing

How much does Boomerang cost?

Boomerang for Gmail costs $4.99 a month for Personal subscription and $14.99 a month for Pro subscription.

My co-workers are using Boomerang too. Can we buy a group Boomerang subscription for our Google Apps domain?

Yes, we can set up a domain-wide account subscription for your organization. Please email us at sales@baydin.com.

I am using Boomerang for work. Will you give me an invoice so I can expense it?

Yes, we will send you an invoice you can use for expense reports. We recommend you subscribe to a yearly plan so that it will be less work for you.

I don’t have a credit card, what should I do?

Hang in there! We’re planning to offer annual subscriptions through PayPal or Google Checkout before your account converts in September.

I paid for a subscription already, voluntarily!

How do you count 10 messages a month for Boomerang Basic?

We count all messages you scheduled with Boomerang (including Boomerang, Send Later and track response messages) in your message credit for the month.

What happens if I go over the 10 message limit for the month with Boomerang Basic? Wil you still deliver the messages I already scheduled?

Yes, Boomerang will deliver all messages that were scheduled successfully. If you go over your message limit for the month with Boomerang Basic, you will not be allowed to schedule more messages for that month.

So I can't use Boomerang for FREE?!

You can use Boomerang for free as long as you only schedule 10 messages or less a month. Starting September 1st 2011, you will be limited to 10 scheduled messages per month with Boomerang Basic plan. All the messages you have scheduled before that time will be delivered as scheduled and will not affect your message limit.

Why does Boomerang for Gmail need access to my email account?

Like most other Gmail plugins, we need access to the full email data to be able to move and send messages. In our queries, we only store the headers of the message (subject, sender, time) so that we can uniquely ID the message you want to schedule. We don't store any message text.

Does it mean you have my Gmail password?

No, we don't have access to your Gmail password. You are authorizing through Google's official OpenID system.

Uninstallation

How do I uninstall Boomerang?

There are two steps to uninstall Boomerang.

  1. First, uninstall the plugin from your browser.

    • Firefox
    • Please follow the instructions here on how to uninstall a plugin from Firefox.
    • Chrome
    • Please follow the instructions here to uninstall an extension from Chrome.
    • Mailplane
    • In the "Preferences" menu in Mailplane, click "Accounts", select your account, then go to "Advanced" section and uncheck the checkbox next to Boomerang.
  2. You should revoke Boomerang's access to your Gmail data. This step is for your privacy.

    • Go to your Google Account settings here.
    • Under "Security" section, click the link that says 'Authorizing applications & sites.'
    • Click the link named 'Revoke Access' next to b4g.baydin.com -- Gmail and b4g.baydin.com -- Sign in using your Google account.

Troubleshooting

I installed Boomerang for Gmail, but the Boomerang and Send Later buttons do not appear.

At this time, Boomerang for Gmail works only when the Gmail interface language is set to English(US) or English(UK). If you are using Gmail in English, try reloading the browser window. If the the buttons still do not appear, please let us know at support@baydin.com.

I cannot authenticate in Firefox.

Please ensure that third-party cookies are enabled. Detailed instructions are here.

I cannot Boomerang a message. An error occurs during processing.

This means that Boomerang had trouble reading the email's headers and was unable to uniquely identify the message. If you don't mind sharing the email with us, please forward it to us at support@baydin.com. We'll look into it and improve Boomerang for a future release.

I continue to get Failed Boomeranged Message notifications.

Make sure that IMAP is enabled for your Boomerang label and that your message was not previously removed from the Boomerang label. If errors continue to occur, please contact support@baydin.com.
